We at PGSG hope you had a happy and restful break between semesters!
At the end of the semester, we like to take the time to recognize senators who've gone above and beyond what was asked of them. In the fall semester, we had three awards.
Reyes is the senator for Philosophy. This year, he attended a Legislative Action Day sponsored by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students. While representing Purdue in D.C., Reyes learned about advocacy on the state and federal level and brought the knowledge back home to advocate for international student concerns, specifically for policies related to visas, enrollment, and recent policy changes that affect international students. Great job, Reyes!
You may know me as one of the writers for the blog. I'm also in my second year as the senator for the Horticulture department and serve on the Enforcing Accountability committee. I'm also a part of the Grant Review and Allocations Committee and the GSOGA/Symposium Vice-Chair. I'm honored to receive this award and love being a part of PGSG.
Anumitha is the senator for Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She is also the graduate student representative on the Student Affairs Committee, where she has been advocating for grad student interests as they put together a parental leave policy. This semester, she's also served as the Senate Clerk, taking detailed notes of our meetings. Beyond that, she is a part of the Grant Review and Allocations Committee. Thanks for all you do, Anumitha!
Thanks again to our three Above and Beyond awardees and the rest of our Senate. We're lucky to have such a great group of senators, and we're excited to get back to work! :)
